Types of Wood Joints

Basic Butt Joint

There is no more basic wood joinery than the butt joint. This type of joint is often used in wall framing on construction sites.

Bridle Joint

This joint is used to hold a rail, such as legs, in uprights, providing strength from compression. The joinery type is also resistant to cracking. Here, you will need a mechanical pin or fastener.

Dado Joint

It has a notable square-grooved slot on one of its boards in which another piece of board will be fitted. It is used mostly to connect plywood, especially when making cabinets.

Varieties of Wood Species

1

Beech

Beech is a very bland wood, without a lot of individual characteristics, outside of its legendary use in brewing. However, this lack of feature in wood can be a good aspect, providing a clean slate for artistic creations.

2

Maple

Woodworking with maple can be a trying experience, particularly when it comes to applying a finish.

3

Hickory

Hickory is a group of tree species that can be a little tough on saw blades and bits but can add terrific style to a woodworking project.
